General Statement of Duties
This position performs senior level accounting functions for the organization. Primary responsibilities include general ledger maintenance, analysis, and reporting. Responsible for internal and external relations, auditing, and general administration.
Essential Position Functions
General Ledger Maintenance & Analysis
- Prepare routine to complex general ledger journal entries and large estimates; review routine journal entries by others.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations for complex accounts; maintain GL support.
- Review and analyze data for accuracy and compliance; make or coordinate corrections.
- Prepare advanced trend and data analysis.
- Interact with accounts payable staff on AP and cash receipts activities, including reviewing and coding invoices.
Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial reporting packages.
- Handle external financial reporting, including regulatory filings and inquiries.
- Develop reports for ad-hoc requests using Excel or GL software; run routine reports.
- Maintain and create financial reports in reporting software.
- Participate in presenting financial statements at Finance Committee and Board meetings.
- Support year-end audit requests and assist in financial statement preparation.
- Prepare reports for regulatory agencies and annual tax filings.
Internal & External Relations
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal departments and external entities.
- Serve as an advanced resource for finance staff.
- Participate in meetings/webcasts with internal/external stakeholders and regulators.
Leadership
- Support and train developing accounting staff.
Administration
- Participate in meetings, track time, and identify process improvements.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required
Technical
- Mastery of core accounting functions, understanding of GAAP, internal controls, data interpretation, and intermediate Excel skills.

- Effective listening, verbal, and written skills; ability to influence and communicate with external parties.

- Ability to lead small projects, support organizational change, and improve processes.

Education & Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Accountant or 3-4 years with relevant degree and core experience.
Preferred
- Experience in health insurance, public accounting, or financial reporting; Bachelor’s degree; CPA license.
Working Conditions
- Primarily inside/office environment with occasional travel; able to work during core business hours.
