Job description

We are looking for a collaborative and detail-oriented candidate interested in the intersection of product and retail/fashion to join our team as a Senior Accountant. The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of experience at a large accounting firm and / or in a similar role at a high-growth startup. As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for helping us make critical financial decisions by collecting, tracking, and recording the company's financial results. This person will serve as a bridge between finance and departmental functions at Ghost. Ghost is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, with a second office located in New York. This role is required to be onsite in our NY office, originally located in Brooklyn but moving to Manhattan in the next few months.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring 100% accuracy of accounting and financial data by collaborating with sales, merchandising, and product teams.

• Taking the reins of the full accounts payable cycle, managing new vendors, invoices, and payables with precision.

• Overseeing accounts receivable and managing collections from buyers.

• Supporting month, quarter, and year-end closes by preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.

• Preparing schedules and maintaining reconciliation for Prepaids, Accrued Expenses, Fixed Assets, and other balance sheet accounts.

• Collaborating with merchandise and sales teams to ensure accurate reporting of managed and consignment inventory, along with all transaction data.

• Acting as the finance team's liaison in the New York office, managing expenses, keeping leadership informed, and fostering a healthy spend culture for future endeavors.

• Establishing and managing vendor and buyer compliance processes.

• Responding to information requests and providing support during audits.

• Preparing special financial reports, showcasing your keen analysis of account information and trends.

Requirements

• Current Role & Experience: You have 3-5 years of relevant experience as a Senior Accountant, preferably from a large accounting firm, startup, or mid-sized company (50+ employees).

• Industry Background: Your experience includes retail, fashion, or manufacturing industries—this is essential for understanding our business needs.

• Technical Skills: Experience with NetSuite is a major plus.

• Education: A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.

• Analytical & Communication Skills: You have strong written and verbal communication skills and a keen eye for detail that makes you highly analytical.

• Work Ethic & Initiative: A self-starter who excels at multitasking, prioritizing, and executing tasks without micro-management while proactively seeking assistance when needed.

• Work Environment: You are comfortable with a 5-day in-office workweek (initially based in Brooklyn, moving to Manhattan later this year).
