Job summary

Included Health is seeking a Sr. Accountant to support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and deliver accurate financial reporting. You will prepare journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and analyses while partnering cross-functionally to improve controls and audit readiness.

The ideal candidate is detail oriented, owns their work, and can independently assess accuracy of results. 3+ years of accounting experience and US GAAP knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3+ years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and accrual accounting.
  • Experience working in an ERP system; Workday experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Ability to clearly explain accounting conclusions, assumptions, and business impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities in assigned areas.
  • Optimize full-cycle commissions process, including data flow, calculating payments, and monthly accounting.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and supporting schedules.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances.
  • Ensure workpapers and documentation are complete and audit-ready.
  • Partner with FP&A, Accounts Payable, and other teams to ensure accuracy of results.
  • Support accounting for accrued liabilities, commissions, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Perform analytical reviews and explain period-over-period fluctuations.
  • Help maintain and improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation.
  • Assist with external audit requests with schedules and explanations.
  • Research accounting issues and document conclusions.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects and process improvements.
  • Take ownership of areas and identify risks and solutions.

Job description

The Sr. Accountant role is responsible for supporting the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensuring accurate, timely, and well-supported financial reporting. This role prepares journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and other accounting analyses, while partnering cross-functionally to improve processes, strengthen controls, and support audit readiness. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, operates with strong ownership and accountability, and can independently assess the accuracy and completeness of financial results.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities in assigned areas.

  • Optimize full-cycle commissions process, including the operational data flow, calculating commission payments, and accounting for commissions on a monthly basis.

  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and supporting schedules.

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate and resolve variances and reconciling items.

  • Ensure all workpapers and supporting documentation are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.

  • Partner with FP&A, Accounts Payable, and other cross-functional teams to ensure completeness and accuracy of accounting results.

  • Support accounting for key operational areas such as accrued liabilities, commissions, and other assigned balance sheet and P&L accounts.

  • Perform analytical reviews and explain period-over-period fluctuations and unusual trends.

  • Help maintain and improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation to drive efficiency and accuracy.

  • Assist with external audit requests by preparing schedules, support, and technical explanations.

  • Research accounting issues and document conclusions when needed.

  • Contribute to ad hoc projects, reporting requests, and process improvement initiatives.

  • Take ownership of assigned areas and proactively identify risks, issues, and recommended solutions.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.

  • 3+ years of relevant accounting experience.

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP.

  • Experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and accrual accounting.

  • Experience working in an ERP system; Workday experience preferred.

Pay:

The base salary range for this full-time position is $71,090 – $88,000 per year in the United States. This posted range reflects the portion of our internal salary band that is currently funded for new hires in this role across our standard labor markets (Zones A–C).

For context, these markets include Zone A (e.g., Phoenix AZ, San Antonio TX, Columbus OH, Charlotte NC), Zone B (e.g., Chicago IL, Denver CO, San Diego CA, Houston TX), and Zone C (e.g., Los Angeles CA, Seattle WA, Washington, D.C., Boston MA). At this time, we are not budgeting for hires in higher-cost Zone D markets (e.g., San Francisco Bay Area CA, New York City NY, San Jose CA) for this role. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location, skills, experience, and internal equity. We use structured salary bands and geographic zones based on cost of labor to keep pay fair and consistent.
