You'll prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and depreciation, manage fixed assets, and support audits and grant funding reviews. Collaboration across finance is essential to strengthen controls and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of progressive general ledger accounting experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Experience with Sage Intacct and nonprofit or grant accounting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly journal entries, payroll allocations, and accruals.
• Drive a continuous close process to complete period-end general ledger reconciliations within seven business days.
• Complete monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations and manage fixed asset subledgers.
• Support grant tracking, billing, and donor funder compliance.
• Assist with financial statements, variance analyses, and audit documentation.
• Suggest process improvements to strengthen internal controls.

A premier, mission-driven national nonprofit organization is seeking a skilled and meticulous Senior Accountant to join its finance team. Reporting to accounting leadership, this hands-on individual contributor plays a pivotal role in driving day-to-day general ledger operations, maintaining strict GAAP compliance, and supporting continuous close and grant accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

• General Ledger & Continuous Close: Prepare and review monthly journal entries, payroll allocations, and accruals. Drive an ongoing continuous close process to complete period-end general ledger reconciliations within seven business days.
• Reconciliations & Fixed Assets: Complete monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations (prepaids, liabilities, payroll), investigating discrepancies promptly. Maintain fixed asset subledgers, tracking additions, disposals, and monthly depreciation.
• Grant & Funder Compliance: Set up new grant tracking segments in the ERP, ensuring accurate transaction recording in compliance with donor funder requirements, and assist with grant billing and reconciliations.
• Audit & Financial Reporting: Assist with financial statement preparation and variance analyses. Prepare schedules and documentation for the annual financial statement audit, single audits, and grant compliance reviews.
• Process Improvement: Collaborate across the finance department to enhance internal controls, maintain data integrity, and streamline accounting workflows.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience: 3+ years of progressive general ledger accounting experience, including month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and fixed asset management.
• Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP. Experience with Sage Intacct and nonprofit or grant accounting is strongly preferred.
