The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory General Engineer/Computer Scientist, Squadron Director (NH-0801/1550-04) to work at the 412 Test Wing, 412 Test Engineering Group, 812 Test Support Squadron, Squadron Director (812 TSS/ENT) at Edwards Air Force Base. The Squadrons within the 412th Test Engineering Group (412 TENG) provide engineering and business support to the Test and Evaluation (T&E) mission of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC) and the 412 Test Wing (TW). This includes the infrastructure to administer the respective Squadrons. The organization's primary purpose is to provide competent T &E expertise to 412 TW organizations responsible for the planning and conduct of flight and ground test of air vehicles including modeling and simulation, development of new test methods and support hardware/software, analysis tools/techniques, and the resources to plan, provision, conduct and evaluate & report on the various test projects.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)

Typical 2026 salary range: $146,632 - $197,200 (includes locality)

NOTE: For Acquisition “NH Pay Band” positions ADD the following statement under the pay band range: “If your current basic salary is within the band, but above the stated VOP, your basic salary will not be reduced if you are selected for the position.”

Telework Information: Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) prescribed "Unscheduled Telework"

Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible

Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.

Must have requirements or may not be considered: For the 0801 occupational series, a professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred.

Major Duties
  • Oversees personnel management and supervisory responsibilities, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work performance. Directs Squadron operations, sets goals, and manages staffing, training, and development programs to meet mission objectives. Leads organizational planning, policy execution, and coordination across Squadrons to ensure effective test and evaluation support.
  • Provides technical and managerial oversight for engineering, technical, and administrative staff to ensure consistency and the quality in test and evaluation activities. Maintains accountability for all subordinate work and ensures alignment with organizational standards and objectives. Supervises diverse personnel across multiple career paths to achieve program goals.
  • Delivers expert technical and test management leadership within assigned engineering or test areas. Integrates technical teams, establishes quality and process standards, and ensures effective application of engineering and acquisition principles. Applies broad technical knowledge to coordinate complex, interrelated test and development disciplines.
Qualifications/Requirements

  • Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain and Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCIS)
  • Drug Testing: This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Education Requirements: ABET Accredited College or University
  • Financial Management Statement: The employee is required to file a Confidential Financial Disclosure report upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
  • Expert knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and techniques across multiple interrelated and integrated technical and test engineering disciplines, including combat air vehicle systems, related systems, and test support operations and infrastructure.
  • Expert knowledge of flight and laboratory air vehicle/missile test conduct, coordination, supervision, data analysis/evaluation and applicable flight test truth sources, modeling and simulation, technical report preparation, and administrative aspects of flight test programs.
  • Strong ability to plan and organize work; coordinate between electronic, aerospace, and mechanical engineering and test disciplines; and work effectively with Air Force, DoW, and domestic and foreign government agencies.
  • Strong ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply rules and regulations; maintain good working relations; supervise and train personnel; provide technical leadership and project oversight; and communicate effectively using modern software applications.
