Overview

STAND 8 Technology Consulting is seeking a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support a global media & entertainment client. This role is remote and commutable within the Los Angeles, CA, New York tri-state area, or Orlando, FL. You will design, implement, maintain, and ensure the performance of SQL Server databases across hybrid and cloud infrastructures, enforcing database administration best practices, standards, policies, and procedures. You will collaborate with technical leads, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to ensure secure operations and strategic growth, including initiatives for AI integration.

Responsibilities

• Define, implement, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server database administration standards, tools, and procedures.
• Support databases in cloud and on-prem hybrid environments in a multi-database enterprise environment.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure, InfoSec, Compliance, Audit, and Business stakeholders to ensure secure and compliant database operations.
• Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and optimization for physical, virtual, and cloud-hosted environments.
• Practical experience in managing internal and external Microsoft SQL Server database security.
• Strong knowledge of Multi-Instance implementations and methodologies.
• Experience with Replication, Log Shipping, Change Data Capture and Database Mirroring.
• Support high availability and disaster recovery strategies using Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and distributed AGs.
• Manage data archival and retention policies in collaboration with business and IT teams.
• Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems and participate in on-call rotations.
• Troubleshoot complex database issues and serve as a subject matter expert for SQL Server technologies.
• Lead initiatives for AI integration, including vector search, external model management, and semantic search capabilities.
• Maintain and enhance security posture using TDS 8.0, RBAC, managed identities, and advanced password protection.
• Ensure compliance with resource governance policies, especially for TempDB and memory-optimized workloads.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server Database Administration.
• Proven expertise in managing SQL Server versions from 2016 through 2025, including upgrades and migrations.
• Experience with SQL Server on Linux, containers, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS RDS, AWS Aurora, Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon CloudWatch, AWS IAM, AWS Secrets Manager, AWS Backup, AWS DMS, AWS Lambda, and AWS Glue).
• Strong proficiency in T-SQL, SSIS, stored procedures, and query optimization.
• Familiarity with AI-driven features in SQL Server 2025, including vector data types, external model invocation, and semantic search.
• Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
• Deep understanding of security, including encryption, authentication, and access control.
• Experience with replication, log shipping, change data capture, and mirroring.
• Familiarity with JSON data handling, regular expressions, and fuzzy string matching in SQL Server.
• Strong communication skills and ability to mentor junior team members.

Nice to have

• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database - Specialty) or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and MySQL is a plus.
• Exposure to NoSQL and distributed database systems.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
• Knowledge of ZSTD backup compression, TempDB governance, and Accelerated Database Recovery.
• Understanding of data governance, compliance frameworks, and audit requirements.

Base pay

Base pay range: $115,000-138,000 per year, depending on experience.
