Cogent Communications is seeking a SQL & PHP Developer in Washington, DC to support the development and maintenance of data-driven applications and business reporting solutions. Initial focus on SQL query and stored procedure development with a clear path into PHP development and back-end work.

The role emphasizes accuracy, consistency, and understanding how data supports dashboards, analytics, forecasting, and operational reporting.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of SQL Server experience and ability to develop complex queries.
• 1+ years of PHP web development experience.
• 1+ years of experience with the Laravel framework.
• Understanding of relational database concepts (tables, keys, normalization).
• Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and modify queries and stored procedures while ensuring data accuracy and performance.
• Ability to translate business requirements into logical development tasks and document technical work.

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing SQL queries and stored procedures to understand business logic and data relationships.
• Create efficient SQL queries to retrieve, transform, and organize data for applications and dashboards.
• Troubleshoot incorrect or unexpected query results and optimize SQL logic.
• Modify and enhance stored procedures as requirements change; test changes for data accuracy and performance.
• Review and optimize queries to improve efficiency and reduce processing time.
• Collaborate with business and technical teams to translate reporting needs into SQL logic.
• Contribute to PHP development tasks and understand how applications present data to users.
• Document stored procedures, data logic, and technical changes.
