Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintain, and support SQL Server environments and configurations.
• Perform routine administration: backups/restores, index and statistics maintenance, DBCC checks, log management.
• Implement and maintain high-availability solutions including Failover Clustering and Always On AGs.
• Monitor database health and troubleshoot blocking, failed jobs, and performance issues.
• Diagnose and resolve moderate-complexity database issues and escalate architecture concerns as needed.
• Support disaster recovery activities and cloud platforms such as AWS RDS/Aurora and Azure SQL.
• Develop knowledge of Databricks, PostgreSQL, and MySQL; maintain configuration/runbooks/docs.

Job description

My client has a full time opening for a mid level SQL DBA. This is a hybrid role and is on site 3 days a week in Philly. You must be a Citizen or GC holder to qualify. The team is modernizing its database environment from a primarily on-premise Microsoft SQL Server footprint toward a hybrid on-premise/cloud model, incorporating modern database and data technologies.

This role provides hands-on administration, implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and support across the SQL Server environment, with increasing exposure to cloud and emerging database platforms.

The ideal candidate is an independent problem solver with strong analytical and communication skills who can work effectively within a small, globally distributed team.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintain, and support SQL Server database environments and configurations.
• Perform routine database administration, including backups/restores, index and statistics maintenance, DBCC checks, transaction log management, and storage management.
• Implement and maintain high-availability solutions, including Failover Clustering and Always On Availability Groups.
• Monitor database health and performance and troubleshoot issues such as blocking, failed jobs, resource constraints, and performance problems.
• Diagnose and resolve moderate-complexity database issues independently, escalating complex or architectural issues to the Senior Database Administrator.
• Support disaster recovery activities, including backup verification and restore testing.
• Support cloud-managed database platforms such as AWS RDS/Aurora and Azure SQL Database.
• Develop working knowledge of modern data platforms, including Databricks, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
• Implement database security controls, including roles and permissions, in coordination with Security & Compliance.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including configurations, runbooks, maintenance procedures, and change records.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to critical database incidents as required.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of enterprise SQL Server database administration experience
• Strong hands-on knowledge of SQL Server administration, including SQL Server Agent, backup and recovery, maintenance, DBCC, and performance monitoring.
• Experience implementing and maintaining high-availability solutions, including Failover Clustering and Always On Availability Groups.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot common to moderately complex database issues.
• Exposure to AWS or Azure database services preferred.
• Experience with or familiarity with Databricks, PostgreSQL, or MySQL preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new database platforms and technologies independently.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a small, globally distributed technical team.

Scope

This position owns day-to-day database administration, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting, including hands-on high-availability support. Enterprise database architecture, platform strategy, and the design of new disaster recovery or high-availability architectures remain the responsibility of the Senior Database Administrator.
