SQL DBA Administrator

Remote

RATE: $25/hr Maximun

Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled SQL Database Administrator with deep expertise in SQL Server 2019, on-premises upgrades, and cloud migration. This role will work closely with a customerside team lead, collaborating directly with their technical leadership to support database modernization and cloud transition initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute SQL Server 2019 on-premises technical upgrades, including planning, installation, configuration, and validation.
• Manage, maintain, and optimize SQL Server environments to ensure performance, reliability, and security.
• Design and implement migration paths from SQL Server 2019 on-premises to Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, or AWS RDS for SQL Server.
• Perform advanced performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting.
• Oversee backup/restore processes, disaster recovery planning, and environment hardening.
• Collaborate directly with the customer-side team lead to align technical work with business priorities and project timelines.
• Support application teams with schema changes, deployment coordination, and database best practices.
• Monitor database health, capacity, and performance using industrystandard tools.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server 2019 administration, upgrades, and optimization.
• Proven experience migrating SQL workloads to Azure or AWS managed SQL services.
• Advanced SQL and TSQL skills, including performance tuning and query optimization.
• Solid understanding of HA/DR technologies (Always On, log shipping, replication).
• Experience with SQL security, auditing, and compliance.
• Ability to work effectively with customer-led teams and communicate clearly with nonDBA stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Experience with automation tools (PowerShell, Azure CLI, AWS CLI, Terraform).
• Familiarity with DevOps pipelines for database deployments.
• Experience with monitoring tools (SQL Sentry, Redgate, SolarWinds, etc.).
