Sprinkler Technician 3 demonstrates a high level of expertise and leadership in inspecting, testing, and servicing fire sprinkler systems. The role involves leading complex projects, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring the optimal performance and safety of sprinkler systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee comprehensive inspection, advanced testing, and troubleshooting of sprinkler and preaction systems and their components.
- Perform inspections and testing of fire alarm, special hazard systems, kitchen hoods, and preaction systems.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in sprinkler systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Manage and maintain detailed records of service activities, reports, analyses, and improvement recommendations.
- Supervise and mentor junior technicians, providing guidance, training, and support.
- Participate in project planning, system design, and implementation to enhance sprinkler system functionality.
- Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver seamless service, address deficiencies, and optimize performance.
- Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and standards adherence.
- Demonstrate commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction in all activities.
- Conduct site surveys for sprinkler system upgrades, develop bills of materials, labor projections, and schedules.
- Create redline drawings for as-built documentation.
- Lead various sprinkler projects based on size and complexity.
- Plan, lead, and perform five-year internal sprinkler inspections and testing.
- Troubleshoot complex fire suppression and sprinkler issues.
- Perform pre-testing and final acceptance testing with Fire Marshal for assigned projects.
- Develop and maintain relationships with building owners, managers, and customer representatives.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, work orders, schematics, blueprints, and specifications.
- Maintain truck inventory.
- Respond to after-hours service calls as scheduled.
- Pursue and maintain industry certifications, and grow technical and customer service skills with support from MCDean.
- Conduct sprinkler system surveys to assess condition, compliance, coverage, and functionality; provide recommendations for improvements and prolongation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
- Perform research using installation manuals, manufacturer manuals, and other resources to determine materials and procedures.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma (required)
- 8 years relevant experience or 2-year technology degree with 6 years relevant experience
Certifications:
- NICET II in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems or
- Pass NICET II exam within 90 days of employment
- State Backflow Certification or obtain within 90 days
- Fire Pump Test Certification or obtain within 90 days
