Job summary

Kentucky Educational Television (KET) offers a Television Production Internship in Lexington, KY as part of the O. Leonard Press Public Affairs Internship. Paid hourly wage with the opportunity to earn two stipends during the semester for meeting performance markers.

Interns will work on programs such as Comment on Kentucky, Kentucky Tonight, Kentucky Edition, News Quiz, and legislative coverage, gaining hands-on experience in production, communications, and journalism.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in a related field and during internship.
• Completed at least 24 academic credit hours or equivalent.
• Strong computer, writing and communication skills with coursework or interest in Public Media, Journalism, Civics or Politics.

Responsibilities

• Video: assisting in camera operation in field and studio.
• Audio: assisting audio technicians in field and studio.
• Editing: assisting in editing footage.
• Graphic Design: assisting in creating graphics for programs.
• Production: assisting with on-air promotion production; running teleprompter; logging and transcribing video and interviews.
• Administrative: researching content, legislation, scheduling and hosting guests; assisting producers.
• Legislative Support: support in all production areas in Frankfort and Lexington.

Are you interested in pursuing a career in public media, journalism, communication, or political science?

Come intern for Kentucky Educational Television, (KET), one of the largest and most respected statewide public broadcasting networks in the nation.

The Television Production Internship (O. Leonard Press Public Affairs Internship) offers motivated college students an exceptional opportunity to gain skills and practical work experience in production, communications, and journalism . Students will work closely with KET professionals in the creation, production, and/or promotion of public affairs programs and content.

This paid internship includes an hourly wage plus the opportunity to earn two stipends during the semester for achieving certain performance markers.

LOCATION:

Student(s) selected will work at the Lexington, Kentucky Network Center at 600 Cooper Drive.

OPPORTUNITIES:

While working on programs like Comment on Kentucky, Kentucky Tonight, Kentucky Edition, News Quiz, and legislative coverage, students have the opportunity to gain experience in areas such as:

• Video —Assisting in camera operation in the field and in the studio
• Audio —Assisting audio technicians in the field and in the studio
• Editing —Assisting in editing footage
• Graphic Design —Assisting in creating graphics for programs
• Production —Assisting with on-air promotion production; running teleprompter; logging and transcribing video and interviews
• Administrative —Researching content, legislation, and other information; scheduling and providing hospitality for guests appearing on programs; assisting producers and associate producers
• Legislative Support —Support in all areas of production in Frankfort and Lexington

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Students must be currently pursuing a degree in a related field at the time of application and during the internship.
• Students must have completed at least 24 academic credit hours or equivalent and be in good academic standing.
• Must have strong computer, writing and communication skills with course work and or interest in Public Media, Journalism, Civics, or Politics.
• Must commit to at least 120 hours during one semester and have the flexibility to work evening hours.
• May require job-related travel including overnight stays; sitting and/or standing/walking for long periods; handling of average-weight objects up to 50lbs.
