Job summary

General Astronautics is seeking an Engineering Intern for Spring 2027 in San Francisco. You will work with a mentor and the founding team on projects that ship to orbit, writing code, building hardware, and running experiments critical to our demo mission.

You will own a mechanism from requirements through hardware, perform trade studies, and produce flight-ready designs with CAD models and documentation. On-site 12 weeks, with extended hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a bachelor's degree by start of employment.
  • GPA 3.5 or above.
  • 6+ months of hands-on technical work outside the classroom.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Thrives in a dynamic startup environment.
  • Proficient in prototyping, estimations, and hand calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Own a mechanism or subassembly from requirements through hardware, conducting trade studies and design decisions.
  • Build and iterate CAD models and drawings; select materials and assembly sequences for flight-ready hardware.
  • Use traditional analysis (FEA) to ensure safety margins across load conditions.
