Job summary

Live Oak Bank, America's Small Business Bank, is seeking an onsite SBB Lending Support Intern to join the team in Wilmington, NC, starting January 2027. The role offers about 10 hours per week with potential extension into Summer 2027 as hours increase.

You will support lending teams across multiple industries, help move transactions forward, and deliver an exceptional borrower experience while learning credit analysis, portfolio management, and relationship-focused client service from banking

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain loan files in Prism, ensuring complete and organized information for lending decisions.
• Upload, review, organize, and maintain loan documentation from ShareFile and internal platforms.
• Perform file completeness reviews and identify missing documents before underwriting.
• Create and maintain checklists of missing documents and track outstanding items.
• Assist with financial spreading, debt schedules, cash flow analysis, and sources and uses preparation.
• Conduct industry, company, and market research on borrowers.
• Support portfolio management, reporting, and administrative activities across lending teams.
• Partner with lenders and credit teams to complete preparatory work for efficient transactions.
• Assist with presentations, reports, and process improvement initiatives.
• Maintain regulatory awareness including BSA, AML, CIP, and OFAC.

What You'll Do at Live Oak

• Build and maintain loan files in Prism, our loan origination system, ensuring lenders, underwriters, and credit partners have complete and organized information to support lending decisions.
• Upload, review, organize, and maintain loan documentation from ShareFile and other internal platforms.
• Perform file completeness reviews and identify outstanding financial and supporting documentation needed before underwriting.
• Create and maintain checklists of missing documents and track outstanding items to help keep transactions moving forward.
• Assist with financial spreading, debt schedules, cash flow analysis, and sources and uses preparation.
• Conduct industry, company, and market research on prospective and existing borrowers.
• Support portfolio management, reporting, and administrative activities across multiple lending teams.
• Partner with lenders and credit teams to complete preparatory work that helps transactions move efficiently through the lending process.
• Assist with presentations, reports, special projects, and process improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a high standard of regulatory awareness, including BSA, AML, CIP, and OFAC requirements.

Required Experience

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, or a related field.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Comfortable working with documents, spreadsheets, and technology platforms.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team.

Preferred Experience

• Coursework in finance, accounting, economics, business analysis, or related fields.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel to organize, analyze, or track information.
• Familiarity with financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Previous internship, leadership, customer service, volunteer, or student organization experience.
• Interest in commercial banking, lending, credit analysis, entrepreneurship, or small business ownership.
• Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn in a fast‑paced environment.

The base pay range for this position is $19.77 - $32.12 per hour.

Compensation may also include annual bonuses and long‑term incentives, subject to various metrics and company policy.

A candidate’s salary is determined by several factors including travel, relevant work experience or skills and expertise.
