Job summary

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation in Savannah, GA invites students to join the Spring 2027 Human Factors Collegiate Intern program. You will contribute from day one within the Human Factors Engineering team, applying user-centered design principles to real-world jet development projects.

You will rotate through assigned tasks, gain hands-on experience with design evaluation methods, and collaborate with engineers across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (without rounding) must be listed on resume
  • Rotation requirements: Juniors – 2 rotations; Seniors & Graduate Students – 1 rotation

Responsibilities

  • Perform trade studies on system design concepts and present human factors requirement recommendations to multidisciplinary design teams
  • Assist in design of part task simulation evaluations for detailed design requirement definition using software and physical mockups
  • Work with a Human Factors Engineer to provide project recommendations in selecting and applying anthropometric modeling tools
  • Apply data analysis methods (descriptive or inferential statistics)
  • Assist with preparation, development, and execution of part-task and/or simulator plans that utilize data measurement techniques
  • Document evaluations in final engineering reports
  • Assist with validation and verification of requirements
  • Utilize industry and regulatory committee design guidance to support design aspects

About the Position

The Gulfstream Human Factors Engineering (HFE) team works to ensure that Gulfstream's product development process follows a human-centered design approach. The team applies data-driven knowledge about the user's physical and cognitive capabilities and limitations to generate design requirements. These requirements are validated through structured evaluation and support regulatory compliance and certification. The goal of HFE is to ensure Gulfstream's products are safe, easy to use, easy to maintain, maximize total system performance, and are preferred by customers.

On any given day, you may:

  • Perform trade studies on system design concepts and present human factors requirement recommendations to multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Assistin the design of part task simulation evaluations for detailed design requirement definition using software and physical mockups, or predictive modeling tools.
  • Work with a Human Factors Engineer to provide project recommendations in selecting and applyingappropriate anthropometricmodeling tools to design concept analysis.
  • Applyappropriate dataanalysis methods (descriptive or inferential statistics).
  • Assistin the preparation, development, and execution of parttaskand/or simulator plans thatutilizedata measurement techniques such as rating scales, questionnaires, and performance measurement calculation.
  • Document evaluations in final engineering reports.
  • Assistwith validation and verification of requirements.
  • Utilize industry and/or regulatorycommitteedesign guidance and/or regulations to support design aspects.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with basic research methods and use of human subjects in evaluations and experiments.
  • Prior experience with statistical analysis of survey, evaluation, and/or test data and the documentation of results within a report or memorandum.
  • Ability to convey technical and non-technical concepts clearly and succinctly in both written and verbal formats.
  • Demonstrated passion and/or prior knowledge of aviation.

Desired Skills / Interests:

  • Experience with task analysis methods
  • Experience supporting a human factors evaluation within a flight simulator
  • Experience with survey development
  • Experience performing an analysis of flight deck effects and crew actions resulting from system failures
  • Experience with simulation software (e.g., CATIA V5 Human Builder, JACK, 3DSSPP, OPTIS SPEOS)
  • Flying experience (e.g., PPL, CPL, ATP)

Preferred degree programs

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following disciplines:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Must be available to work on-site in Savannah, GA during the Spring 2027 semester, beginning in January 2027. This position is specifically for the spring 2027 semester. This position will not have openings for the summer semester.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (without rounding); must be listed on resume.
  • Actively enrolled in school during the time of the internship; expected graduation May 2027 or later.

Note: Psychology for M.S. or Ph.D. will be considered if candidate is pursuing undergrad in engineering.

Note: Psychology for B.S. will be considered if candidate has taken several engineering courses prior to internship.
