Job description

At Parker Hannifin, you’ll sit directly at the intersection of global macroeconomics and real-world industrial strategy. As an Economics Spring Intern, you will join our in-house Corporate Economics team—embedded within Global Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)—and work side-by-side with our Corporate Economist. You’ll explore how shifts in central bank policy, commodity price swings, international trade flows, and industrial policy reverberate through global supply chains and multi-billion-dollar manufacturing end-markets. If you love diving into data, answering tough questions, and translating complex economic realities into practical insights that business leaders rely on, this is the launchpad for your career.

What You’ll Actually Get To Do
  • Track the Global Pulse: Monitor and analyze key macroeconomic indicators—GDP growth, inflation, employment dynamics, interest rates, and trade data—across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.
  • Tackle End-Market Research: Dig deep into diverse industrial verticals (such as aerospace, defense, energy, clean tech, and transportation) to uncover market trends, competitive shifts, and growth drivers.
  • Build Econometric Models & Digital Tools: Use programming languages like Python, R, or Stata to clean complex datasets, run empirical analyses, and help automate economic indicator tracking.
  • Leverage Professional Market Intelligence: Get hands-on daily experience with a dedicated Bloomberg Anywhere terminal to extract data, track market consensus, and monitor breaking geopolitical and financial developments.
  • Evaluate Public Policy & Geopolitics: Examine how domestic and international policy changes, tariffs, regulatory shifts, and geopolitical developments affect manufacturing operations and customer demand.
  • Bridge Data and Storytelling: Create clean, compelling visuals, slide decks, and executive briefing memos that translate heavy econometrics into actionable recommendations for non-economist leaders.
What You’ll Walk Away With
  • Built a standout portfolio of real-world applied economic research and industrial market forecasts.
  • Deep practical fluency in enterprise analytical tools, reproducible research workflows, and Bloomberg.
  • Hands-on experience responsibly utilizing AI and modern digital tools to enhance economic research efficiency.
  • Honed executive communication skills—learning how to brief senior leaders with confidence, clarity, and precision.
  • A supportive network of mentors, business leaders, and peers who are invested in your long‑term success.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program majoring in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong academic foundation in economic theory, statistics, and econometrics.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative research and working with empirical datasets through academic projects, coursework, or prior internships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Working knowledge of or coursework involving at least one analytical/programming language (such as Python, R, Stata, or SQL).
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) on-site/hybrid at Corporate Headquarters in Cleveland, OH for the duration of the 12-week program (Summer 2027).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with financial/economic market data terminals (e.g., Bloomberg).
  • Prior coursework or project exposure to time-series analysis, macro forecasting, or industrial manufacturing economics.
  • Experience building data visualizations, automated reports, or dashboards.
  • Experience utilizing modern, AI-assisted research and productivity tools responsibly within an analytical or corporate environment.
  • Analytical Aptitude & Problem Solving - Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and interest in tackling complex, open-ended business and economic questions.
  • Collaboration - Strong interpersonal skills with an approachable, receptive demeanor; works effectively within a collaborative team environment and values constructive feedback.
  • Time Management & Prioritization - Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables, prioritize effectively, and meet established deadlines in a structured corporate setting.
  • Communication - Strong written, oral, and presentation skills with an ability to distill complex analytical findings into clear, concise, and structured takeaways.
