The city of Aurora's Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Department's mission is to encourage active lifestyles and create healthy environments for people, nature and community. The hiring rate for this role is $18.00/hour. This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
The City of Aurora is seeking highly motivated and talented individuals for a career in the Recreation Division. The Sports Assistant manages a variety of duties including the operation of sports programs and facilities while ensuring quality customer service. Works under the general supervision of the Sports Superintendant.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education: High School diploma
Experience: At least 6 months of experience working with individuals with disabilities in recreation programs or similar activities
Preferred Qualifications: In order to be successful in this position, applicants must have the ability to obtain a Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record. Sports Officiating certifications desired. You will have the opportunity to occasionally use your own personal equipment (i.e. Vehicle, cell phone, laptop, tools, etc.) during the course of your employment.

The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
