Job summary

The City of Aurora, CO is seeking a dynamic Personal Trainer to design tailored exercise programs for individuals and small groups within our PROS recreation facilities. Qualifications include at least 1 year of teaching fitness classes or personal training, a high school diploma, CPR/AED certification, and knowledge of fitness equipment.

Join our team to make a meaningful, lasting impact on the health and well-being of our residents every day!Plan, design and lead personal training clients through exercise for the City of Aurora’s recreation division.PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for creating own exercise program based on needs of clients with varying levels of fitness on an individual basis and a small group settingConduct assessments and make recommendations for improvements to client health and wellbeingCommunicate effectively with client(s) and Fitness SpecialistPossess knowledge of fitness equipment and appropriate useKeep up with the new trends of fitness and remain current on certificationsModify exercise plans based on needs, potential injuries or health issuesOversee the use of fitness equipment to ensure clients exercise properly and safelyPerform minor first aid and respond to emergencies if neededEffectively motivate participants and clientsPerform additional duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONSAn equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.Education:High School Diploma; degree in Kinesiology or Sports Science preferredExperience:At least 1 year of experience teaching fitness classes/personal training.Knowledge:Knowledge of diverse exercises and how to adjust plans according to each client’s needsAbility to instruct and motivate peopleAbilities:Instruct and motivate group fitness participantsMaintain a safe environmentExcellent communication skillsTeamworkLicenses and Certifications Required:Personal Trainer/Group Fitness Instructor from accredited institutionCPR/AED certificationWORKING CONDITIONSEssential Personnel:When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.Physical Demands:Medium work that involves moving no more than 50 pounds at a timeFrequent lifting, carrying, walking and standingMay require frequent pushing, pulling, bending and stooping.Teaching of fitness classes as scheduled.Work Environment:Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors assisting with a program or outreach events in varying weather conditionsEquipment Used:Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and menu driven databases as a part of the Library automated systemsThis position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.Knowledge of fitness equipment and accessories.The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026.
