Job summary

The YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Sports Instructor Lead to supervise youth and adult sport activities, clinics, and games. You will plan practices, manage schedules, and maintain safe, welcoming spaces for all participants.

This role requires hands-on leadership of staff and volunteers, strong communication with parents, and the ability to respond to emergencies. Weekday evenings, on-site at YMCA facilities, with a focus on quality program delivery and community engagement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years’ experience working with youth and adult sports.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire from approved organizations (ARC, AHA, ISI).
• Ability to supervise and interact with staff, athletes, and diverse groups.

• Prepare sports fields and courts for use including equipment set up and breakdown.
• Provide ongoing training, supervision, and support for all Sports Instructors and Sports Instructor Assistants.
• Maintain a safe environment ensuring playing areas are suitable for game play.
• Serve as a score keeper for assigned games.
• Maintain a positive relationship with staff, participants, volunteer coaches, and parents.
• Track attendance of participants in games, clinics, and practices, along with maintaining records.
• Ensure effective communication with parents, colleagues, volunteers, and participants.
• Other duties as assigned

Overview

The Sports Instructor Lead is responsible for monitoring and supervising staff of youth and adult sports including practices, clinics, and games. The Lead ensures the safety of all participants in planning and implementing quality YMCA programming and will serve as a positive role model to all program participants.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required

• 2+ years’ experience working with youth and adult sports

• Sincere interest in and ability to work with groups of athletes, parents, and staff of diverse ethnic populations

• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation

• Ability to supervise and interact with staff and athletes
• Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and includesubsequentarrest notifications
• CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within30 daysofhireand must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
  • American Red Cross
  • American Heart Association
  • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range
