Garden State Athletic Network (GSAN) seeks a versatile Sports Broadcaster to provide play-by-play and color commentary for our live broadcasts across New Jersey venues. You will adapt to different sports, switching between play-by-play and analysis as production needs require.

Ideal candidates have on-air experience, strong sports knowledge, and the ability to work solo or in two-person booths. This Fall opening starts Oct 9, 2026, with opportunities across weekends and evenings.

The Role

As a Sports Broadcaster, you are the voice and personality of our production. We are seeking versatile, multi-talented broadcasters who possess a broad knowledge of multiple interscholastic sports and feel completely comfortable stepping into the booth for any of the sports we cover.

Candidates must be highly flexible in their broadcasting role—equally comfortable delivering precise, high-energy play-by-play or providing deep, analytical color commentary, and entirely open to switching between either position based on production needs. Additionally, you must be comfortable anchoring a broadcast solo (handling full play-by-play and analysis independently) or working in a two-person booth alongside a commentary partner. This role is perfect for an articulate, highly adaptable storyteller who can seamlessly transition between different athletic disciplines, broadcast team dynamics, and commentary styles across changing sports seasons.

This position is an Immediate Opening for the Fall Season. Priority will be given to candidates who can call Play-by-Play and Color Analysis for Football.

This position will start on Friday, October 9th, 2026 and continue through the remainder of the 2026-27 School Year.

Key Responsibilities:

• On-Air Commentary: Deliver compelling, accurate play-by-play or color commentary throughout the live athletic contest.
• Pre-Game Research: Research teams, rosters, and athletes prior to the event to provide deep, insightful analysis during the broadcast.
• Interviews: Conduct professional, engaging on-air interviews with student-athletes and coaches before, during, or after the contest.
• Team Collaboration: Coordinate effectively with the on-site production crew and producers to ensure seamless transitions and cue timing.

Qualifications

• Age & Eligibility: Must be 18+ and authorized to work in the U.S.
• Education: Associate’s Degree in Broadcasting, Journalism, Sports Media, or a similar field is preferred. A High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus an additional 2 years of relevant broadcasting experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
• Age & Eligibility: Must be 18+ and authorized to work in the U.S.
• On-Air Experience: 2–3 years of experience providing play-by-play or color commentary at the interscholastic or collegiate level for the sport(s) you are applying for.
• Sports Knowledge: A deep, working knowledge of the rules, strategy, and terminology for your designated sport(s).
• Multi-Sport Versatility: A strong, comprehensive working knowledge of various interscholastic sports rules, strategies, and terminology, with a proven comfort level commentating on multiple different sports.
• Communication: Excellent verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to think quickly on your feet in a live environment.

Schedule & Travel

• Location & Mobility: Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to various schools throughout our coverage area within New Jersey.
• Regional Travel: Occasional travel outside the primary coverage area may be required (e.g., Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern New York). We arrange carpooling where possible; however, if you are required to drive to these locations, you will receive additional per-diem compensation.
• Availability: Must be flexible and willing to work weekends and weekday evenings during the academic year.

• Weekdays: Games can start as early as 3:00 PM.
• Weekends: Games can start as early as 9:00 AM.
• Call Times: Typically 90 minutes prior to the start of the event.

• Advance Notice: We respect your time; schedules are typically provided at least 2 weeks in advance.

Compensation

• Rate: $16.50 per hour
• Structure: Events are paid via a 'per-diem' model based on the scheduled length of the event.
