Job summary

Ultimart in Wisconsin is seeking Sporting Department Sales Associates who are passionate about hunting, fishing, archery, and the outdoors to welcome guests and provide knowledgeable recommendations.

You will assist at the sporting counter with firearms, bows, and fishing gear, help customers select products, demonstrate safe testing at the archery lane, and maintain a clean, well-organized department while following all regulations.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred with hunting using firearms and/or bows in order to effectively assist customers and provide knowledgeable recommendations.
• Strong knowledge of hunting, fishing, archery, firearms, or outdoor sporting equipment preferred.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing business levels.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Delivers outstanding Guest service by maintaining a positive, friendly, and knowledgeable demeanor.

• Supervises and assists with the in-store archery lane to test bows safely.
• Maintains calm during high volume to keep department running smoothly.
• Uses suggestive selling techniques to boost sales and guest satisfaction.
• Stocks merchandise, organizes displays, and maintains a clean department.
• Follows all state and federal regulations related to firearms and sporting goods sales.
• Follows Company policies, including cash handling and safety procedures.
• Promotes teamwork and assists coworkers; maintains punctual attendance.

Sporting Department Sales Associates are the faces of our Sporting Department and play an important role in creating a welcoming and knowledgeable experience for every customer. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about hunting, fishing, archery, and the outdoors, and enjoys helping customers find the right products for their needs.

This role includes assisting customers at the sporting counter, where Guests are often shopping for firearms, bows, hunting gear, fishing equipment, and related sporting goods. Team members help answer questions, recommend products, assist with purchases, and provide excellent Guest service throughout the department. The Sporting Department can ebb and flow throughout the day and season — some shifts may be fast-paced and extremely busy, while others may be slower and focused on stocking, organizing, and maintaining the department.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

• Helps customers select products that best fit their needs by sharing personal knowledge and experience in hunting, firearms, archery, and/or outdoor sports.
• Supervises and assists customers using the in-store archery lane to safely test bows.
• Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume to keep the department operating smoothly and efficiently.
• Uses suggestive selling techniques to boost sales and improve Guest satisfaction.
• Stocks merchandise, organizes displays, and helps maintain a clean and professional department appearance.
• Follows all state and federal regulations related to firearms and sporting goods sales.
• Follows Company operational policies and procedures, including cash handling and safety procedures.
• Promotes teamwork and readily assists coworkers throughout the shift.
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
• Maintains a clean and polished appearance while wearing the designated uniform.
