Position Purpose / Important Application Information

The Sport Coach – Swim Team (Westy Waves) is the head coach for the non-competitive swimming team representing the City of Westminster and the CARA program. The position requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays, and the ability to travel to work and other pools outside of the city as needed. Recreation staff are primarily responsible for ensuring the safety of program participants.

The full salary range is stated above. The starting salary depends on qualifications and experience.

Job Specific Competencies

Employees must demonstrate:

• Knowledge of swimming instruction for all four competitive strokes and regulations
• Ability to work with children aged 6 to 18
• Quick and calm response in emergencies
• First aid procedures
• CPR and rescue breathing skills, AED use
• Courteous interaction with the public and support for the City’s guest service philosophy

Employees are expected to provide excellent customer service, communicate effectively, display professionalism, work independently and as part of a team, take initiative, solve problems, and handle emergency situations.

Job Functions

Responsibilities include:

• Promoting a safe, non-competitive environment
• Planning and implementing swim workouts
• Coordinating swimming meets, including setup, attendance tracking, and maintaining knowledge of CARA rules

Additional Duties

• Attending monthly trainings

Additional duties may be assigned at the discretion of the City.

Position Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old, have coaching or extensive swimming instruction experience, and obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications within 30 days of hire. Preference for personal swim team experience.

Physical and Working Conditions

Work involves physical activity, including standing, walking, crouching, lifting, and rescue operations, often in a wet, noisy indoor pool environment. Must have sufficient stamina and strength for rescue duties.

Pre-employment Requirements

Legal eligibility to work in the U.S., passing background checks, and drug screening are required.
