Position Purpose

As a FOSS Swim Teacher, you will make memorable moments for children of all ages by teaching life-swim skills in a fun, splashy, and safe environment.

Have a passion for water? Come share your love of swimming with your community and FOSS will provide you with the training to confidently teach our Swim Path curriculum. This position allows you to lead the students in a structured, yet fun water-environment to develop their life enriching skills to provide a lifetime of confidence and safety around water.

Our Learn to Swim program gives you the opportunity to instruct a variety of ages and skill sets to make swimming a safe and enjoyable sport. Bring your ability to improvise, play, and connect because laughter is an important part of our teaching method.

Job Type: Part-time (minimum 12 hours / week)

Shift Type: 3 to 5-hour shifts

  • Weekday Evening Shifts (starting around 3:00pm or 3:30pm)
  • Weekend Shifts (includes additional $3.00 / hour pay)
  • Substitute Shifts (includes additional $1.00 / hour pay)

Main Responsibilities As a Swim Teacher

  • Manage a class of 1-4 students by providing hands-on swim instruction (following the FOSS Swim Path curriculum), promote swimmer safety, and teach life-enriching skills.
  • Ensure a safe, engaging, and educational experience for students, similar to working in daycare or childcare settings.
  • Build partnerships and interact with the student’s parent or guardian on their progress.
  • Support & demonstrate our four Cultural Pillars: Connect, Collaborate, Empower, Belong
  • Bring laughter, smiles, & FUN!

POSITION SPECIFIC TRAINING: We like to make learning fun and have designated training cohorts to set you up for success. These cohorts provide a structured training schedule and allows you to learn and have fun with your team!

  • Attending both training days/times for the full cohort session is required.

Cohort 1: June 17 – July 6

  • 1a: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:30pm – 7:30pm
  • 1b: Saturdays & Sundays from 9:00am – 1:00pm

Cohort 2: July 8 – July 27

  • 2a: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:30pm – 7:30pm
  • 2b: Saturdays & Sundays from 9:00am – 1:00pm

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Comfortable working in a pool setting.
  • Work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
  • Positive attitude and high energy.
  • Practice good communication skills.
  • Experience interacting with children is preferred.
  • Aquatic background is preferred.
  • Successfully Complete Position Specific Training.

Working Conditions: (if applicable)

  • Ability to work in water and demonstrate the physical movements necessary to teach the FOSS Swim Path curriculum.
  • Work in an indoor pool facility that will be warm and humid with water temperatures up to 91 degrees.
  • Ability to work in areas exposed to noise, chemicals, and industrial equipment and supplies.
  • Speak with others, including children, using clear, professional, and age-appropriate language.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
