Job description

This position will serve as a primary coordinator of pre-award and non-financial post-award requirements involved in obtaining and managing sponsored awards to ensure compliance with Federal regulations, sponsor guidelines and university policies. This position will also play a key role in maintaining and troubleshooting problems with the InfoEd Electronic Research Administration system as well as developing and presenting training materials for key stakeholders and documenting system departmental procedures.

Essential Functions:
  • Provides faculty, staff and students guidance in interpreting federal or non-federal sponsor regulations, guidelines, and policies associated with the grant proposal development and submission phase. Reviews government regulations, policy changes and other agency notices; and disseminates information to stakeholders.
  • Develops and presents group and/or one on one training on the InfoEd Electronic Research Administration System and troubleshoots system issues with user and/or system vendor in order to meet grant submission deadlines. Provides training demonstrations of the InfoEd SPIN funding opportunity database to faculty and staff interested in doing their own searches or prepares targeted funding opportunity searches as requested. Disseminates other funding opportunities as received.
  • Performs the institutional compliance review of all grant proposals for adherence to sponsor regulations/guidelines and university policy before submission. Provides feedback to faculty/staff if corrections are required.
  • Reviews awards for acceptance, reviews all terms and conditions of the grant award and communicates the necessary award information to the Post-Award Office via the InfoEd Electronic Research Administration system to establish the grant award budget in the university financial system. Prepares subawards if applicable. Performs ongoing compliance reviews for any other non-financial post award requirements throughout the life of the award. Participates in "kick-off" meetings with stakeholders to review and discuss the grant award terms, roles and responsibilities, and schedule of deliverables.
  • Manages the coordination and oversees at least one of the internal grant programs review process (i.e. George F. Haddix President's Faculty Research Fund, Health Science Strategic Investment Fund Faculty Development Grant, President's Distinguished Curriculum Innovation and Pedagogical Research Grant, LB692 New Initiatives Grant, or LB595 Cancer and Smoking Disease Research Program Development Grant)
  • Compiles and analyzes report data for audit, survey, accreditation and institutional management requests for externally sponsored submission and award information.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of research administration experience, or closely related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of the Uniform Guidance and experience interpreting federal and non-federal regulations and guidelines is expected.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel; PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Knowledge in the research process including regulatory compliance.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, to elicit and communicate information, to analyze complex issues, and to prepare/present clear, informative, and concise materials.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with staff, faculty, deans and external sponsors.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member, while exercising independent and critical judgement.
  • Ability to prioritize work with multiple and conflicting demands in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to lead and train faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability to work beyond normal business hours at times depending upon department needs.
Certifications/Licenses:
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA) encouraged.
