Job summary

GBGreat Bend Hospital in Kansas seeks a Split Shift Medical Lab Technician to perform chemistry, hematology, coagulation and urinalysis testing. You will ensure CLIA standards, proper patient ID and sample handling, and maintain quality control and calibration of instruments.

The role requires an ASCP/NCA-eligible associate degree or equivalent training, plus current BLS. Full-time schedule with responsibilities across the core lab functions and safety practices.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Clinical Lab Science & Technology or military training eligible for ASCP/NCA certification.
  • ASCP, NCA AMT, or equivalent eligible within 6 months of hire.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or CLT training from an NAACLS program.
  • BLS/BCLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepares, labels and stores reagents, standards, controls, proficiency materials and patient specimens.
  • Analyzes patient and control specimens and records results per policy.
  • Calibrates, maintains and operates instruments with proper documentation; reports malfunctions.
  • Ensures proper patient identification and sample processing per procedure.
  • Disposes of biohazardous materials and sharp waste per policy.

Position Summary / Career Interest:

Performs various laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation and urinalysis. Obtains quality results by following policy and procedure for quality control, quality assurance, maintenance, calibration and calibration verification to ensure CLIA standards are met. Responsible for proper patient identification, sample collection and sample processing.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Accurately prepares, labels and stores reagents, standards, controls, proficiency testing material and patient specimens for analysis.
  • Analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy.
  • Calibrates, maintains and operates instruments keeping appropriate documentation; reports equipment malfunction to supervisor.
  • Correlates results of pertinent laboratory determinations
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care/service safely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships and technical skills
  • Disposes of biohazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps and other potentially hazardous materials according to policy.

Required Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree in Clinical Lab Science & Technology or appropriate Military Training eligible for ASCP or NCA certification.

Required Licensure and Certification
  • ASCP, NCA AMT, or equivalent eligible (must be completed within 6 months of hire)
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP) Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) training at an accredited NAACLS training program
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
