Great Bend Hospital is seeking a Medical Lab Technician for the PRN Nights and Full Time position. The role performs chemistry, hematology, coagulation and urinalysis tests, ensuring quality results through proper QC, calibration, and sample processing.

Responsibilities include preparing specimens, operating instruments, documenting results, and maintaining safety with biohazardous materials. Requires ASCP/NCA eligible certification and an Associates degree in clinical lab science or military

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent military training eligible for ASCP/NCA certification.
  • ASCP, NCA AMT, or equivalent certification eligible within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS (AHA) certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, labels and stores reagents, controls, and patient specimens for analysis.
  • Analyzes specimens and records results per laboratory policy.
  • Calibrates and maintains instruments; documents activities and reports malfunctions.
  • Correlates results of laboratory determinations and ensures timely reporting.
  • Adheres to safety policies for handling biohazards and chemical waste.

Position Title

Medical Lab Technician - PRNNights - Full TimeGreat Bend Hospital

Position Summary / Career Interest:

Performs various laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation and urinalysis. Obtains quality results by following policy and procedure for quality control, quality assurance, maintenance, calibration and calibration verification to ensure CLIA standards are met. Responsible for proper patient identification, sample collection and sample processing.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Accurately prepares, labels and stores reagents, standards, controls, proficiency testing material and patient specimens for analysis.
  • Analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy.
  • Calibrates, maintains and operates instruments keeping appropriate documentation; reports equipment malfunction to supervisor.
  • Correlates results of pertinent laboratory determinations
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care/service safely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships and technical skills
  • Disposes of biohazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps and other potentially hazardous materials according to policy.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree in Clinical Lab Science & Technology or appropriate Military Training eligible for ASCP or NCA certification.

Required Licensure and Certification

  • ASCP, NCA AMT, or equivalent eligible (must be completed within 6 months of hire)
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP) Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) training at an accredited NAACLS training program
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
