Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Split Shift Medical Lab Technician at GB Great Bend Hospital to perform chemistry, hematology, coagulation and urinalysis tests. You will ensure quality results by following QC/QA policies and maintain patient safety through proper specimen handling.

Responsibilities include preparing and processing specimens, calibrating instruments, documenting results, and adhering to safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in clinical lab science or military training eligible for certification.
  • Licensed/eligible for ASCP/NCA certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, label and store reagents, standards, controls and patient specimens for analysis.
  • Analyze patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and record results promptly.
  • Calibrate, maintain and operate instruments with proper documentation.

Job description

Position Title - Split Shift Medical Lab Technician - GB Great Bend Hospital

Position Summary / Career Interest: Performs various laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation and urinalysis. Obtains quality results by following policy and procedure for quality control, quality assurance, maintenance, calibration and calibration verification to ensure CLIA standards are met. Responsible for proper patient identification, sample collection and sample processing.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Accurately prepares, labels and stores reagents, standards, controls, proficiency testing material and patient specimens for analysis. Analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy. Calibrates, maintains and operates instruments keeping appropriate documentation; reports equipment malfunction to supervisor. Correlates results of pertinent laboratory determinations Demonstrates ability to provide care/service safely and efficiently. Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships and technical skills Disposes of biohazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps and other potentially hazardous materials according to policy.

Required Education and Experience

Associates Degree in Clinical Lab Science & Technology or appropriate Military Training eligible for ASCP or NCA certification.

Required Licensure and Certification

ASCP, NCA AMT, or equivalent eligible (must be completed within 6 months of hire) Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP) Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) training at an accredited NAACLS training program Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA).
