Job summary

ZealoTech People is seeking a Fiber Optic Splicing Technician (OTDR) for field-based, full-time work. You will perform fusion splicing, OTDR testing, termination, and maintain splice records while traveling to site locations. Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of experience, knowledge of SMF 9/125 µm, and ability to read splice plans.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with fusion splicing and OTDR.

• Ability to read fiber route diagrams and splice plans.

Responsibilities

• Perform fiber optic cable splicing using fusion splicing machines.
• Carry out OTDR testing for fiber links and analyze traces for faults, losses, reflections, and distance.
• Perform fiber termination, jointing, patch-panel work, and ODF installation.
• Identify and rectify fiber faults such as high loss, fiber breaks, bends, and bad splices.
• Take power meter/light source measurements and maintain acceptable link-loss levels.
• Prepare and maintain OTDR test reports, splice records, and fiber documentation.
• Read fiber route diagrams, splice plans, and network drawings.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of fiber optic networks.
• Work safely at sites, including manholes, poles, ducts, and customer/network locations.
• Coordinate with supervisors and network teams for fault restoration and commissioning.

Job Description – Fiber Optic Splicing Technician (OTDR)

Experience: 1–3 years preferred

Location: Field-based

Employment: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

• Perform fiber optic cable splicing using fusion splicing machines.
• Carry out OTDR testing for fiber links and analyze traces for faults, losses, reflections, and distance.
• Perform fiber termination, jointing, patch-panel work, and ODF installation.
• Identify and rectify fiber faults such as high loss, fiber breaks, bends, and bad splices.
• Take power meter/light source measurements and maintain acceptable link-loss levels.
• Prepare and maintain OTDR test reports, splice records, and fiber documentation.
• Read fiber route diagrams, splice plans, and network drawings.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of fiber optic networks.
• Work safely at sites, including manholes, poles, ducts, and customer/network locations.
• Coordinate with supervisors and network teams for fault restoration and commissioning.

Required Skills

• Hands-on experience with fusion splicing and OTDR.
• Knowledge of single-mode fiber, typically SMF 9/125 µm.
• Ability to operate OTDR and interpret OTDR traces/events.
• Knowledge of fiber loss, ORL/reflection, splice loss, connector loss, and link budget.
• Familiarity with fiber joint closures, ODFs, patch cords, pigtails, and fiber cleaning procedures.
• Willingness to travel to field locations.
• Basic documentation and reporting skills.
