Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of professional fiber optic splicing experience.
  • Must have experience with 288ct and 432ct fiber.
  • Strong hands-on experience with fusion splicing.
  • Proficiency operating and interpreting results from OTDRs and optical power meters.
  • Experience with ribbon splicing, ribbonizing, and splitting ribbons preferred.
  • Experience working with both OSP and ISP fiber optic networks preferred.
  • Previous fiber optic cable installation experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic troubleshooting, testing, and repair procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand fiber optic documentation, splice diagrams, and project specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fiber optic splicing in both OSP and ISP environments.
  • Perform fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, ribbonizing, and ribbon splitting.
  • Splice into live fiber networks while following safety procedures and minimizing service disruption.
  • Perform OTDR testing, interpret traces, and identify signal loss, faults, breaks, and other fiber issues.
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic systems and determine repair or replacement solutions.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot splicing/testing equipment (fusion/mechanical splicers, OTDRs, power meters).
  • Prepare fiber optic cable using hand tools and specialized equipment (strippers, ring tools).
  • Maintain records of splicing activities, test results, repairs, and network documentation.
  • Follow safety procedures and customer specifications; work with field teams.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Splicer to support our client's telecommunications infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience working in both Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) environments, with strong technical troubleshooting skills and a commitment to safety, quality, and reliable workmanship.

The Fiber Optic Splicer will be responsible for performing fiber splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs while ensuring all work meets industry standards, project specifications, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform fiber optic splicing in both OSP and ISP environments.
  • Perform fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, ribbonizing, and ribbon splitting.
  • Splice into live fiber networks while following appropriate safety procedures and minimizing service disruption.
  • Perform OTDR testing, interpret traces, and identify signal loss, faults, breaks, and other fiber issues.
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic systems and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot fiber optic splicing and testing equipment, including:
  • Fusion splicers
  • Mechanical splicers
  • Cleavers
  • OTDRs
  • Optical power meters
  • Properly prepare fiber optic cable using hand tools and specialized equipment, including:
  • Fiber strippers
  • Cable ring tools
  • Other fiber preparation tools
  • Perform fiber preparation, routing, splicing, and cable management according to project requirements.
  • Inspect completed splices and verify network performance through appropriate testing procedures.
  • Identify and resolve fiber faults and excessive signal loss.
  • Maintain accurate records of splicing activities, test results, repairs, and network documentation.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and accounted for.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, industry standards, and customer specifications.
  • Work effectively with field technicians, supervisors, engineers, and project teams.
  • Perform other fiber optic installation, maintenance, and repair duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.

  • Schedule flexibility is required based on project and customer requirements.
  • May require overnight work, extended hours, weekends, or emergency service depending on project needs.
  • Work may be performed in telecommunications facilities, buildings, underground locations, aerial environments, and construction areas.
