Job summary

North Sky Communications, LLC is seeking a Fiber Splicer II to operate in the Ripon and/or Sacramento area, serving the California market. You will fuse optical fibers to build and maintain our networks, ensuring strong, reliable connections and seamless data flow across a growing system.

The role requires 2+ years of hands-on fiber splicing, a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass a DOT medical exam.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on fiber splicing experience
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience
• Valid driver’s license with clean record
• DOT physical exam and medical card

Responsibilities

• Perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, aerial and underground
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot post-installation circuits
• Ensure splicing meets customer and industry standards
• Upgrade existing fiber sheaths with new fiber
• Mid-sheath fibers for entry on loose tube or fiber sheaths
• Cut away sheath to reach faulty connections and prepare cables
• Provide guidance to other splicers as needed
• Complete basic daily vehicle maintenance
• Document work with daily production reports and maps
• Maintain correct material usage records
• Perform other duties as assigned

At North Sky Communications, LLC, as a Fiber Splicer II based in the Ripon and/or Sacramento area and servicing the California market, you'll complete the process of fusing optical fibers to build and maintain our telecommunications networks. Your splicing work is essential for keeping strong, reliable connections and ensuring data travels seamlessly through our continually growing network.

What You'll Do

• Perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, both aerial and underground
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot the network's circuit post-installation
• Ensure all splicing operations meet strict customer and industry standards
• Upgrade existing fiber sheaths with new fiber sheaths
• Mid-sheath fibers for entry on loose tube or fiber sheaths
• Cut away sheath from existing cables to reach faulty connections, and remove sheath and insulation from newly installed cables and wires
• Provide guidance to other splicers, as needed
• Complete basic daily maintenance of vehicles, including fluid checks
• Document work performed through daily production reports, including marking up maps and keeping correct material usage records
• Perform other duties as assigned

What You'll Need

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Legal authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• Valid State driver's license (non-provisional) with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass a DOT physical exam resulting in a valid medical card
• Minimum of 2 + years of current hands-on fiber splicing experience

Additional Qualifications

• Routinely: Work at heights; occasional entry into attics and crawl spaces; work independently in remote locations; operate vehicles and heavy machinery; squeeze, perform fine hand motions, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs, and lift up to 55 lbs without assistance.
• Occasionally: Work in confined spaces; use ladders and gaffs for climbing poles; operate keyboard and mouse.

Compensation

• The wage range for this position in California is $35.00 - $45.00 per hour, depending on exact work location and relevant experience.
