Job summary

North Sky Communications, LLC in the Ripon/Sacramento area is seeking a Fiber Splicer II to build and maintain our telecommunications networks across California. You will fuse optical fibers, upgrade cables, and ensure reliable data transmission.

You will test circuits post-installation, troubleshoot issues, and document work in daily production reports. The role requires 2+ years hands-on fiber splicing, a valid driver's license, and ability to pass a DOT medical exam.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of hands-on fiber splicing experience.
• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass a DOT medical exam.

Responsibilities

• Perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, both aerial and underground.
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot the network post-installation.
• Ensure all splicing operations meet customer and industry standards.
• Upgrade existing fiber sheaths with new fiber.
• Document work in daily production reports and update maps/records.
• Provide guidance to other splicers as needed.
• Complete basic daily vehicle maintenance.

What You'll Do

• Perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, both aerial and underground
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot the network's circuit post-installation
• Ensure all splicing operations meet strict customer and industry standards
• Upgrade existing fiber sheaths with new fiber sheaths
• Mid-sheath fibers for entry on loose tube or fiber sheaths
• Cut away sheath from existing cables to reach faulty connections, and remove sheath and insulation from newly installed cables and wires
• Provide guidance to other splicers, as needed
• Complete basic daily maintenance of vehicles, including fluid checks
• Document work performed through daily production reports, including marking up maps and keeping correct material usage records
• Perform other duties as assigned

  What You'll Need

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States for this company
  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • Valid State driver's license (non-provisional) with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical exam resulting in a valid medical card
  • Minimum of 2 + years of current hands‑on fiber splicing experience

  Additional Qualifications

  • Routinely: Work at heights; occasional entry into attics and crawl spaces; work independently in remote locations; operate vehicles and heavy machinery; squeeze, perform fine hand motions, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs, and lift up to 55 lbs without assistance.
  • Occasionally: Work in confined spaces; use ladders and gaffs for climbing poles; operate keyboard and mouse.

  Compensation

  • The wage range for this position in California is $35.00 - $45.00 per hour, depending on exact work location and relevant experience.
