Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a hospital chaplain to provide direct pastoral care to patients, families, and staff across the facility. The role involves developing a hospital parish, leading worship experiences, and responding to crisis situations with sensitivity and inclusivity.

The chaplain coordinates with local clergy, coordinates volunteer chaplains, and participates in interdisciplinary teams to support safety, quality, and compassionate care.

Job Description Summary

Provides direct pastoral care and spiritual support to patients, family members/significant others and staff throughout the hospital. Usually this involves development of a "parish" within the hospital. Shares in other activities such as invocations at operating unit functions upon request of management, crisis intervention, 24/7 on-call responsibilities, providing hospital-wide worship experiences, and representing OhioHealth Mission & Ministry throughout the community.

Responsibilities And Duties

60%

Provides ongoing, "hands-on" ministry to patients, families and staff. Includes, but is not limited to: spiritual care, prayer, sacramental ministry, responding to codes.

20%

Serves as a contact person or liaison between local clergy, patients, families and staff. Assists in responding to requests for workshops, lectures, etc. from hospital/church/community. Shares responsibilities for providing a variety of worship services as appropriate. Assists coordinator of hospital volunteers in scheduling and overseeing ministry of volunteer chaplains.

10%

Shares rotation of all "on-call" responsibilities as needed.

10%

Participates as a member of interdisciplinary teams and serves on select hospital committees.

As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.

Bachelor's Degree (Required)

Additional Job Description

Knowledge of pastoral care skills, especially as practiced within the hospital setting and in crisis situations. Three years ministry Experience . Comfortable in providing inclusive ministry in a broadly ecumenical and interfaith setting.
