Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a Chaplain to provide direct spiritual care to patients, families, and staff across our hospital. This role develops a hospital parish, conducts worship, and responds to codes and crises as part of 24/7 on-call duties.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree with at least three years of ministry experience, comfortable with ecumenical and interfaith settings, and ready to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support safety and quality of care.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of pastoral care skills, especially in hospital settings and crises.
  • Three years ministry experience.
  • Comfortable in inclusive, interfaith ministry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing, hands-on spiritual care to patients, families and staff, including prayer and sacramental ministry.
  • Serve as liaison between local clergy, patients, families and staff; coordinate workshops and worship services.
  • Share on-call responsibilities and participate in interdisciplinary hospital committees.

Usually this involves development of a "parish" within the hospital. Shares in other activities such as invocations at operating unit functions upon request of management, crisis intervention, 24/7 on-call responsibilities, providing hospital-wide worship experiences, and representing OhioHealth Mission & Ministry throughout the community.Responsibilities And Duties:60%Provides ongoing, "hands-on" ministry to patients, families and staff. Includes, but is not limited to: spiritual care, prayer, sacramental ministry, responding to codes.20%Serves as a contact person or liaison between local clergy, patients, families and staff. Assists in responding to requests for workshops, lectures, etc. from hospital/church/community. Shares responsibilities for providing a variety of worship services as appropriate. Assists coordinator of hospital volunteers in scheduling and overseeing ministry of volunteer chaplains.10%Shares rotation of all "on-call" responsibilities as needed.10%Participates as a member of interdisciplinary teams and serves on select hospital committees.As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.The job profile provides an overview of responsibilities and duties and is not intended to be an exhaustive list and is subject to change at any timeMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree (Required)Additional Job Description:Knowledge of pastoral care skills, especially as practiced within the hospital setting and in crisis situations.
