Job summary

AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe Company in Flint, MI is seeking a dedicated Machine Operator to learn all aspects of spiral weld pipe manufacturing. You will collaborate with the team, collect data, and make real-time decisions to keep production safe and efficient.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Must be able to read, write, and interpret simple documents and instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Must be able to effectively present information in one‑on‑one, small group situations to employees, and members of leadership.
• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Must be able to compute ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
• Must be able to read and interpret linear and circumference measurements using tape measures and calipers.
• Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Must be able to read and interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Must be able to operate computer controlled hydrostatic test stand, including reading and interpreting console indicators and gauges, and using control console to conduct tests.
• Must be able to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
• Must have the willingness to rotate to different positions as requested by manager or team leader.

Responsibilities

• Review's work orders or takes direction from the leadership team to determine what jobs are required, and in what order to run them.
• Assist the leader in the set-up of the machine.
• Verifies that all positions have been checked and ready to start.
• Ensures machine is kept running by observing and correcting problems that arise.
• Monitor's quality of alignment and weld process, pipe specifications, cement lining, and application of coating.
• Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to machinery and equipment. Refers electrical and hydraulic problems to maintenance department for resolution.
• Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of the product.
• Adheres to all safety rules and brings safety issues to the attention of department leadership or safety manager.
• Follows all work procedures, policies, and protocols.
• Performs other tasks instructed by leadership team.
