Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate all equipment in the spiral department.
  • WINDING bobbins, loading/unloading, tension setting and wrapping nylon tape.
  • Operate machines and perform changeovers; adjust tooling/gears as product requires.
  • Fill out required paperwork accurately.
  • Understand and apply process specification sheet requirements.
  • Document good and non-conforming products.
  • Support safety and Lean Manufacturing initiatives and 5-S.
  • Work overtime including extended shifts and weekends as needed.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

To set up and operate all equipment in the spiral department.

Essential Functions
  • Bobbin winding; strip bobbins; tension setting.
  • Operate machines, including change overs.
  • Spiral machines-load and unload bobbins; string decks; set preforms; run hose; change tube/layer/cover, change machine tooling/gears based on product.
  • Wrap nylon tape.
  • Use and understand calipers.
  • Correctly fill out paperwork.
  • Understand requirements of process specification sheet.
  • Document good and non-conforming product.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by shift supervisor.
  • Ability to work overtime as required, including extended shifts & weekends, to meet business needs.
Department Specific/Non-essential Functions
  • Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.
  • Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.
  • Maintain production schedules.
  • Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
  • Other duties may be assigned at a later time.

Education Required

Working Conditions

The employee may be subject to:

  • High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.
  • Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels.
  • Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection)
  • Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis
  • Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions
  • Ability to work overtime, including short-notice overtime and weekend coverage to meet business needs.

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
