Job summary

Parker Hannifin is seeking a hardworking Spiral Department Operator in Manhattan, KS to set up and operate equipment and ensure production goals are met. You will handle bobbin winding, machine changeovers, and documentation of quality and process adherence.

The role requires basic math, attention to detail, good teamwork, and flexibility for overtime including weekends. High school diploma or GED and prior production experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate spiral department equipment and perform changeovers.
  • Winding bobbins, stripping, tension setting, and loading/unloading materials.
  • Record production data and quality information; identify non-conforming product.
  • Follow process specifications and maintain workplace cleanliness and safety.

Job description

Position Summary
Summary of Position

To set up and operate all equipment in the spiral department.

Essential Functions
  1. Bobbin winding; strip bobbins; tension setting.
  2. Operate machines, including change overs.
  3. Spiral machines-load and unload bobbins; string decks; set preforms; run hose; change tube/layer/cover, change machine tooling/gears based on product.
  4. Wrap nylon tape.
  5. Use and understand calipers.
  6. Correctly fill out paperwork.
  7. Understand requirements of process specification sheet.
  8. Document good and non-conforming product.
  9. Perform other tasks as assigned by shift supervisor.
  10. Ability to work overtime as required, including extended shifts & weekends, to meet business needs.
Department Specific/Non-Essential Functions
  1. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.
  2. Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.
  3. Maintain production schedules.
  4. Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
  5. Other duties may be assigned at a later time.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

Education required: High School diploma or GED

Experience: Production work preferred but not required

  • Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment
Working Conditions

The employee may be subject to:

  • High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.
  • Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels.
  1. Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection)
  2. Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis
  3. Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions
  4. Ability to work overtime, including short-notice overtime and weekend coverage to meet business needs.

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
