Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a fitness instructor to lead classes and welcome members across our New York branches. You will ensure safety, adapt workouts, and foster a welcoming atmosphere for participants with diverse backgrounds.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma, CPR/AED and group exercise certifications, plus experience in hospitality and flexible availability including days, afternoons and weekends. A free YMCA membership is included.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience leading fitness classes.
• Current CPR / AED certifications.
• Current National Group Exercise certifications (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or YMCA).
• Excellent customer service and hospitality skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding hospitality to all members and guests.
• Greet participants and assist during classes.
• Ensure participant safety by inspecting floor and equipment.
• Accommodate member needs and concerns.
• Plan and provide motivating music for classes.
• Maintain attendance records and certifications.
• Support community and promotional events as needed.
• Modify classes according to participants’ fitness levels.
• Stay informed about current fitness programs and trends.
