Job Description

We are seeking a Speechwriter to join our team at the Washington Navy Yard (on-site).

Responsibilities:

• Provide speechwriting support for senior leaders, preparing speeches for approximately 100-125 speaking events annually.
• Develop messaging that aligns with Navy initiatives, ensuring clear communication with the broader audience.
• Maintain strategic planning and speech calendars, managing themes and deadlines.
• Map speeches to identify and track common themes across events and initiatives.
• Manage and organize a shared speech drive for accessibility and efficiency.
• Collaborate with senior leaders to understand their speaking styles and develop appropriate messaging.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• Active Secret Clearance
• Bachelor's degree in Communications
• 10+ years of relevant experience
• Experience writing speeches for senior defense/industry leaders
• Ability to work directly with senior leaders to develop themes and messaging
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, producing clear, concise, and logical content
• Strong knowledge of Navy and Defense issues, current events, history, heritage, and traditions

Preferred Qualifications:

• Military speechwriter experience (Echelon I or II preferred), demonstrated through portfolio or samples.
