Qualifications

This Speech Therapist opportunity is per diems and offers a convenient schedule. This dynamic individual will be responsible for administration and direct application of speech/language pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician. The role includes evaluating, planning, directing and treating all patients referred to speech/language pathology treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury. The therapist assists patients to obtain maximum performance and function in society while learning to live a routine “normal” life within the constraints of their disability. The therapist participates in performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. The role ensures personal competency and provides information related to departmental budget considerations in relationship to speech pathology needs for optimum patient care and service. The therapist assists in scheduling of patient visits for speech pathology evaluation and treatment, performs some administrative duties at the delegation of the director of rehabilitation services, and participates in infection control, safety and educational programs, both in the department and on an organizational basis.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Upon physician referral, performs patient evaluations to determine problems and goals.
  • Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation and makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate.
