Responsibilities

The Speech Therapist in Home Health is responsible for assessing and evaluating patient care needs related to speech and language disorders, as well as functional training in communication, swallowing, and cognitive impairments. Based on this assessment, the therapist helps determine a treatment plan, performs interventions to improve and enhance the patient's well-being, and evaluates progress.

• Provides services within the scope of practice defined by state laws, in accordance with the plan of care, and in coordination with the healthcare team.
• Evaluates the patient's functional level using diagnostic and prognostic tests, and assists physicians in developing the therapy plan of care.
• Treats patients to improve communication, expressing thoughts according to their condition and standards of practice.
• Observes, records, and reports patient responses and condition changes to supervising nurses or physicians.
• Instructs patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare team members in speech therapy activities they can participate in.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

• Must be currently licensed in Speech Therapy in the state of practice
• Current CPR certification
• Must have a valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle
