Speech Therapist

190-Day Contract

Full-Time Position

Reports to: Director of Special Services/Principal

Job Description: Provide speech and language services to students at assigned school(s). Provide technical assistance to area special/general education teachers to ensure that speech and language services provided within the district are of the highest quality and delivered in an efficient and effective manner. Complete all paperwork and monthly status reports/Medicaid billing of services provided. Maintain appropriate level of knowledge regarding therapeutic techniques. Routinely audit services provided to ensure that quality standards are being met.

  • Qualifications/Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in speech and language pathology. Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.
  • Must possess an endorsement as a speech therapist in the state of South Carolina from the SCDE. Must hold a valid SC Certificate for Speech Therapy.
  • Must be able to deliver quality instruction/interventions in the areas of voice, fluency, pragmatics, language development, phonology, and articulation to students with speech and language disabilities in accordance with the IEPs of assigned caseload.
  • Must be skilled in the administration and interpretation of formal and informal diagnostic assessment instruments used specifically for the identification of students with speech and language disabilities.
  • Must be able to interpret data appropriately to make therapeutic recommendations and assist with short-range planning.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills required. Must be able to articulate relevant student progress and data in a professional manner during all IEP meetings and other professional conferences.
  • Must be able to maintain scheduled services in a consistent, effective and efficient manner.
  • Must be able to schedule, coordinate, and provide appropriate notices for all IEP and IEP-related meetings.
  • Must be able to travel between schools within assigned area as required.
  • Responsible for providing speech and language services within assigned schools to ensure that they are of the highest quality and provided in accordance with IEPs.
  • Participate in the delivery of staff development requirements and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Responsible for resolving parent complaints in an efficient and effective manner when needed.
  • Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities at all times in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Complete Medicaid billing/monthly status report of services as requested by the special services director.
  • Maintain the inventory of testing kits and protocols and replenish said supplies as needed.
  • Determine the types of augmentative communication equipment needed by students and order such materials in an accordance with established guidelines.
  • Develop high quality IEPS for students with disabilities in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Follow all district requirements/procedures/checklists related to service provision, paperwork, and assessments.
  • Follow all requirements outlined in federal legislation (IDEA/IDEIA) with regards to service delivery, procedural due process, and paperwork requirements.
  • Must have the ability to meet all established and agreed upon deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
