Job summary

Hi-Desert Continuing Care Center Hospital, part of Desert Care Network, seeks a speech-language pathologist for a part-time role in Joshua Tree, CA. You will plan and implement specific treatment programs for patients/residents following speech therapy principles.

Assess language, articulation, swallowing, and related skills while coordinating with nurses and physicians. You will maintain records, set goals, and adjust plans as needed, serving adolescents through older adults in a collaborative

Qualifications

  • Current California Speech Therapy License
  • Master's Degree in speech-language pathology
  • Current BLS CPR certification

Responsibilities

  • Examines, tests, diagnoses and administers remedial treatments for patients with speech disorders.
  • Performs evaluations with attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation, auditory skills, cognitive linguistic skills, and swallowing disorders.
  • Maintains communication with the patient regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
  • Follows department policies, quality improvement, safety, infection control standards.
  • Communicates with physicians and nurses regarding treatment plans and changes as needed.
  • Prepares documentation such as evaluation results, treatment plans, progress notes, and reports.
  • Develops and maintains short and long term treatment goals and re-evaluates plans as indicated.
  • Gathers data for assessment and administers diagnostic testing to determine impairment and prognosis.
  • Consults with physicians on patient progress and maintains records.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to needs of all age groups and cares for adolescents to older adults.

Education

Current California Speech Therapy License
Master's Degree in speech-language pathology
Current BLS CPR certification

Position Summary

Plans and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients/residents according to the principles and practices of speech therapy.

Responsibilities
Primary Duties
  • Examines, tests, diagnoses and administers remedial treatments for patients with speech disorders.
  • Performs evaluations with special attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation, auditory skills, cognitive linguistic skills, and swallowing disorders.
  • Maintains active and support communication with the patient regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
  • Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Discusses patient care programs with other specialists, including nurses and physicians. Notifies other specialists of recommendations regarding changing treatment programs or suggesting treatments not originally ordered by physician..
  • Prepares written documentation as required by profession and department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress notes and other such reports
  • Develops and maintains long and short term treatment goals for each patient. Re-evaluates and modifies treatment programs as indicated.
  • Gathers data related to patient’s communication disorder, selects appropriate evaluation tool(s) for the purpose of assessment, and administers diagnostic testing procedures to determine the extent of the patient’s impairment and the prognosis for improvement.
  • Consults with physicians on patient’s progress, maintains appropriate records.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of all age groups.
  • Performs above primary duties for ages adolescent through older adults.
