Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking a Speech Pathologist to provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and evidence-based treatment planning for inpatients and outpatients. The role involves family participation, creating individualized plans with measurable goals, and maintaining thorough documentation from intake through discharge.

The position includes supervising students and volunteers, participating in care conferences, and contributing to performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum 1.5 years full-time clinical experience as a Speech Pathologist.
• Licensed as a Speech Pathologist by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
• Certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
• CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to determine the status of the speech, language, cognitive and swallowing abilities of inpatients and outpatients, considering diagnosis and age specific needs.
• Develops and implements, with patient/family participation, individualized treatment plans with measurable goals.
• Maintains quality documentation: Initial Evaluations, Daily/Weekly Progress notes, Discharge Summaries, and other notations.
• Participates in patient care conferences, family conferences, in-service programs, and meetings.
• Counsels family regarding evaluation, care and treatment; initiates discharge planning and provides education.
• Supervises Speech Pathology students and volunteers.
• Assists in supervising Rehab Techs.
• Participates in orientation of new associates and scheduling patients to ensure coverage.
• Supports Performance Improvement activities.
• Adheres to departmental productivity standards.
• Maintains awareness of community resources for referrals and education.
• Identifies educational opportunities and participates in research.
