Job summary

Cook Children’s Health Care System seeks an Inpatient Speech-Language Pathologist to deliver pediatric services in a busy acute setting. You will focus on feeding/swallowing, articulation, language, voice, and fluency, while collaborating with radiology for swallow studies.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in speech/language pathology.
• At least 2 years of pediatric feeding/swallowing experience in an acute pediatric hospital is preferred.
• BLS certification within 30 days of employment required.
• State license or eligible for state licensure.
• Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech/Language Pathology, or eligible for application upon completion of Clinical Fellowship Year and must be obtained within 12 months of hire to maintain employment at Cook.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient speech-language pathology services focusing on functional skills to enhance development, restore function and to prevent disability.
• Evaluate and treat pediatric feeding/swallowing disorders, articulation, language, voice, resonance, fluency and receptive/expressive language disorders.
• Provide swallow function studies for inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with radiology.
• Educate patients and caregivers; consult with other medical professionals, clinics and agencies within Cook Children's system and the community.
• Document services and correspondence following department and system policies.

Evaluation, treatment and home programming are provided for children primarily with feeding and swallowing disorders, or new onset articulation, voice, resonance, fluency, and receptive/expressive language disorders. The SLP will provide speech language services for chronically ill patients admitted to hospital for lengthy stays. The SLP is also responsible for providing swallow function studies for both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the radiologist. The position shall include patient and caregiver education and consultation to other medical professionals, clinics and agencies, both within Cook Childrens Health Care System and within the community. Documentation and correspondence pertaining to these services shall follow department and system policies.
