Job summary

Cook Children's Medical Center is seeking an inpatient Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide comprehensive pediatric services in a 40-hour role at Medical Center - Fort Worth. The SLP will focus on functional skills to improve development and prevent disability in acute care settings, including feeding and swallowing, articulation, language, and voice disorders.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related field.
  • At least 2 years of pediatric feeding/swallowing experience in an acute pediatric hospital preferred.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of employment required.
  • State license or eligible for state licensure.
  • CCC-SLP or eligible for application within 12 months of hire to maintain employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient speech-language pathology services focusing on functional skills to enhance development, restore function and prevent disability in pediatric patients.
  • Conduct evaluations, treatment, and home programming for feeding, swallowing, articulation, voice, resonance, fluency and language disorders.
  • Perform swallow function studies for inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with radiology.
  • Educate patients and caregivers; communicate with other medical professionals and departments.
  • Complete documentation and correspondence per departmental and system policies.

Evaluation, treatment and home programming are provided for children primarily with feeding and swallowing disorders, or new onset articulation, voice, resonance, fluency, and receptive/expressive language disorders. The SLP will provide speech language services for chronically ill patients admitted to hospital for lengthy stays. The SLP is also responsible for providing swallow function studies for both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the radiologist. The position shall include patient and caregiver education and consultation to other medical professionals, clinics and agencies, both within Cook Childrens Health Care System and within the community. Documentation and correspondence pertaining to these services shall follow department and system policies.
