Mayo Clinic Department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to diagnose and treat swallowing, jaw opening, lymphatics, and speech issues in head and neck cancer patients undergoing surgery and/or radiation. The role includes clinical instruction and collaboration with a physician-led team.

Applicants should have a Master’s in SLP, Arizona licensure, CCC-SLP or equivalent, and BLS. Experience with alaryngeal speech and dysphagia is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in speech-language pathology required.
• Arizona licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
• Certification of Clinical Competence in SLP (CCC-SLP) or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at hire and valid for 90 days+.

Responsibilities

• Provide prevention, identification, diagnosis, education and rehabilitation of swallowing, speech and related disorders.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary cancer team and supervise clinical instructors.
• Perform swallowing diagnostics including MBS and FEES; support laryngology collaborations.

Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic Department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist with advanced skill set and expertise working with the head and neck cancer population. The candidate must specialize in the diagnostics and management of swallowing, jaw opening, lymphatics, and speech in head and neck cancer patients undergoing surgery and/or radiation treatment. A medical speech-language pathologist (SLP) provides services for the prevention, identification, diagnosis, consultation, education, and rehabilitation of patients with acquired communication and swallowing disorders. SLPs also serve as clinical instructors for graduate students in speech pathology, clinical fellows, and other medical professionals. The SLP works closely with the patient, family, and other members of a physician-led team in providing individualized treatment. The candidate must have full competency with the swallowing diagnostics: videofluoscopic swallowing studies (MBS ImP, DIGEST) and fiberoptic endoscopic swallowing studies. The candidate must be comfortable working with multidisciplinary cancer team and holding weekly collaborations with our laryngologists.

Qualifications

Master's degree in speech-language pathology

• advanced skill set and expertise working with the head and neck cancer population. The candidate must specialize in the diagnostics and management of swallowing, jaw opening, lymphatics, and speech in head and neck cancer patients undergoing surgery and/or radiation treatment.
• The ideal candidate would also have experience with alaryngeal speech and pulmonary rehabilitation in the total laryngectomy population. Ideally, the candidate is familiar with clinical care pathways in head and neck cancer and holds certification/training with the following interventions: McNeill Dysphagia Therapy program, Pharyngocise, manual lymphatic drainage, and manual therapy/myofascial release.
• Current Arizona licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist
• Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association or academic equivalent with clinical fellowship year pending completion
• Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Specific to Department of Neurology: Experience evaluating and treating adults with neurogenic communication impairments Experience with brain injured patients Experience or interest in augmentative/alternative communication systems Experience evaluating and treating children with communication impairments Experience evaluating and treating patients with dysphagia

Specific to Department of Otorhinolaryngology: Skilled in rigid and flexible video strobolaryngoscopy. Experience evaluating and treating adults with voice and voice related disorders Allied Health Staff in the Division of Speech Pathology are encouraged to achieve Board Certification by the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences (BC-ANCDS) and/or awarded Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders by the American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (BCS-S).
