Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health's Children’s Specialized Hospital in Hamilton seeks a Speech Pathologist to serve pediatric patients with communication and swallowing disorders. Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Licensure: Current and unrestricted New Jersey Speech Language Pathologist license.
  • Certification: CCC from ASHA and BLS Provider Certification.
  • Experience: Pediatric rehabilitation clinical experience preferred; knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, strong clinical judgment, and collaboration with teams.
  • Schedule: Full-time 40 hours/week.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct speech-language therapy to pediatric patients with communication, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders.
  • Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations to identify needs and intervention goals.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based techniques.
  • Communicate results and progress to families and care teams.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, educators to coordinate care.
  • Educate families on goals, strategies, and at-home activities.
  • Mentor students, CFYs, and staff as appropriate.
  • Complete timely documentation meeting regulatory standards.

A Typical Day For a Speech Pathologist May Include
  • Providing direct speech-language therapy services to pediatric patients with communication, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders
  • Conducting comprehensive speech and language evaluations to identify each patient's strengths, needs, and areas for intervention
  • Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans using evidence-based therapeutic techniques that support each patient's functional goals
  • Applying knowledge of normal development and pediatric rehabilitation principles to assess and treat a variety of communication and swallowing needs
  • Communicating evaluation results, treatment recommendations, and patient progress effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary care team members through verbal and written communication
  • Collaborating with physicians, nurses, therapists, educators, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive, family-centered care
  • Educating and supporting families regarding therapy goals, strategies, and recommendations to encourage continued progress outside of therapy sessions
  • Sharing clinical knowledge, evaluation techniques, and hospital procedures with students, Clinical Fellows (CFYs), volunteers, and peers as appropriate
  • Providing education, in-service training, and professional support to staff and community partners as requested
  • Participating in department initiatives, quality improvement activities, and projects that support organizational goals and the mission of Children's Specialized Hospital
  • Completing timely, accurate documentation that meets regulatory and professional standards while supporting patient care coordination and department productivity expectations

To Be Considered

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Licensure: Current and unrestricted New Jersey Speech Language Pathologist license.
  • Certification: A Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and BLS Provider Certification through American Heart Association.
  • Experience: Pediatric rehabilitation clinical experience is preferred, along with knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders, developmental processes, and evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches.
  • Skills: Demonstrate excellent communication skills, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with children, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Schedule: Ability to work a Full-time schedule (40 hours/week)
