Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health invites a Speech Pathologist to join the team at Children’s Specialized Hospital in Hamilton, NJ. Position delivers direct patient care for communication and swallowing disorders and coordinates with a multidisciplinary team to optimize outcomes.

The role may include training students and requires licensure or eligibility in NJ, ASHA CCC or eligibility, and three years of experience with strong feeding expertise.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology is required.
  • NJ State License or eligibility required.
  • ASHA CCC or eligibility required.
  • Speech-Language Specialist/Correctionist Certificate required.
  • ASHA membership required.
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification required.
  • Evidence of continuing education to meet licensing requirements.
  • Three years of experience as Speech Language Pathologist and strong feeding experience.

Job Overview

Provides direct patient care services to individuals exhibiting communication and or swallowing disorders. Coordinates services with other health professionals. May assist in the training and supervision of students.

Qualifications – Required
  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Completion of the national examination if beginning a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) affiliation.
  • NJ State Speech‑Language Pathology License or eligible
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association or eligible
  • Speech Correctionist or Speech‑Language Specialist Certificate
  • Member of ASHA
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification
  • Evidence of continuing education to meet licensing requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of the theoretical principles and clinical application employed in the diagnosis and management of various communication and swallowing disorders
  • Tact, initiative and judgment in the performance of duties
  • Three years of experience as Speech Language Pathologist
  • Strong feeding experience
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Student clinical experience in pediatrics; rehabilitation experience
  • Knowledge of normal development
Certifications and Licenses Required
  • NJ State Speech‑Language Pathology License or eligible
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association or eligible
  • Speech Correctionist or Speech‑Language Specialist Certificate
  • Member of ASHA

Scheduling Requirements
  • Full‑Time (40 hours/week)
  • Some After School Hours
Essential Functions
  • Delivers effective therapeutic services that are relevant to population served and remains knowledgeable of current techniques
  • Communicates Speech‑Language evaluations on population served that accurately and efficiently identifies strengths and needs in the area being evaluated. Effectively communicates this information in verbal and written forms
  • Completes Basic Competencies of the population currently serving as indicated on the Competency criteria for Speech & Hearing Dept., and hospital competencies
  • Meets productivity demands by seeking out opportunities within the entire dept when cancellations, no shows and low census occur
  • Effectively shares information regarding therapy/evaluation techniques and/or hospital procedures with students, volunteers, CFY's and peers
  • Participates in projects for the department that are consistent with department and hospital goals and missions
  • Communicates job specific concerns and participates in developing solutions
  • Provides in service training to staff and community as requested and completes training commensurate with state license laws
  • Completes written work in a timely manner relevant to evaluation, therapy and patient coordination and the content of written material meets ASHA specifics
