Responsibilities
  • Provides supervision for students and volunteers as required.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly working environment for patients and staff.
  • Adheres to the code of ethics of the American Speech and Hearing Association and the Practice Act of the Commonwealth of PA.
  • Completes all documentation according to departmental policy and regulatory standards.
  • Develops a comprehensive plan of care and provides treatment with appropriate and effective techniques to achieve established goals, emphasizing functional status.
  • Assumes accountability for managing the delivery of patient care.
  • Interprets and utilizes clinical data in the treatment plan.
  • Performs and interprets modified barium swallow studies according to policy.
  • Performs and interprets blue dye testing according to policy (i.e., tracheotomy and ventilator).
  • Assesses current swallowing function in a variety of settings.
  • Recommends specific safe swallowing precautions.
  • Recommends diet according to patient needs.
  • Progresses patient diet according to policy.
  • Collaborates with patient/significant others when establishing goals and treatment plans.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of other healthcare team members.
  • Incorporates education into daily patient activity and individualizes educational plans based on patient needs.
