Job summary

Chicago Heights School District 170 is seeking a School Speech Language Pathologist to provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students with language, speech, voice, and fluency difficulties. Responsibilities

  • Serves as a resource to school staff in developing balanced oral communication and speech/language improvement plans.
  • Provides therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and language disabled children.
  • Assists teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provides thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency and language impairments.
  • Screens to identify speech and language impairments and participates in preschool screening as needed.
  • Collaborates with teachers to implement therapy in daily activities.
  • Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Keeps records for Medicaid billing and service delivery logs.
  • Maintains lists of referred and eligible students and directories of related services.
  • Assists in referrals to external agencies and maintains equipment and supplies.

TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid PEL (Public Educator License) with an SLP endorsement.
JOB SUMMARY: Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school- based speech-language pathologists provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the area of language, speech, voice,
and fluency. These services are designed to help children meet their educational needs.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, benefits, and work year as established in the Teachers\' Contract.
SALARY RANGE: $49, 144 - $60,348; Commensurate with experience.
PENSION SYSTEM: TRS

Responsibilities
The specific duties and responsibilities of Speech Language Pathologist include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech/language improvement through an Individual Education Plan.
  • Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and/or language disabled children.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency and language impairments.
  • Provides screening, as needed, to identify speech and language impaired children at regular intervals and at specified levels including participating in the District preschool screening process as needed.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student\'s daily activities.
  • Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual students receiving therapy for medicaid billing and logs identifying monthly service delivery.
  • Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Provides case management for students identified as only having a Speech Language Impairment
  • Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment, materials, and supplies.
