Job summary

Texas Health Allen is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist (Inpatient) to join our rehab team on a PRN basis. The role supports age-appropriate patient treatment, uses established therapy techniques, and coordinates with physicians and staff to ensure effective care.

Qualified candidates will have a Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology and Texas licensure (SLP or SLP-I) with BCLS. Strong communication, teaching, and teamwork are essential. Orientation occurs during the first week of hire.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required
• ASHA-recognized post-baccalaureate program may be required/recognized
• Texas SLP licensing requirements on hire (SLP or SLP-I)
• BCLS certification prior to independent patient care

Responsibilities

• Perform age-appropriate patient treatment.
• Use therapeutic techniques suitable for patient age and treatment goals.
• Perform procedures within the scope of licensure and delegate tasks safely.
• Educate patients and families about treatment plans, safety, and home programs.
• Maintain patient safety and communicate with care team about issues.
• Motivate patients to participate in therapy.

Work hours: PRN/As needed - Days (Rotating coverage including weekdays and weekends)

Orientation/Training: Must be able to attend orientation/training Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm during the first week of hire

Here's What You Need

• MBS experience preferred and
• Master's Degree Speech Language Pathology Required Or
• Post-Baccalaureate degree recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Required
• SLP - Speech Language Pathology Texas Speech Language Pathology License Upon Hire Required Or SLP-I - Speech Language Pathology Intern Texas Speech Language Pathology License Upon Hire Required
• SLP - Speech Language Pathology Texas Speech Language Pathology License Upon Hire Preferred And
• BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English; Problem solving ability; Ability to teach others; Time management skills; Good interpersonal and customer service skills, Basic leadership skills
  

What You Will Do

• Performs age-appropriate patient treatment
• Uses therapeutic treatment techniques appropriate to patient age and desire for treatment
• Performs treatment procedures that are within the scope of the professional license
• Performs/delegates technical procedures appropriately and safely
• Utilizes a variety of treatment techniques to achieve goals, if necessary
• Determines patient response to treatment and evaluates progress (reassessment)
• Educates patient and family through instruction, demonstration, and/or appropriate handouts in treatment plan, safety issues, home programs/social management and assistive equipment
• Maintains patient safety throughout treatment
• Communicates with physicians and other healthcare personnel as appropriate regarding patient care issues
• Demonstrates competence in the performance of age appropriate patient treatment and individualizes care based on age specific needs
• Motivates non-compliant or unmotivated patients to participate in therapy
